BC Trade and Investment Representatives impressed by Penticton business innovation!
Posted: June 14, 2011
Penticton Economic Development Services (EDS) together with the BC Trade and Investment Representative (TIR) to toured local businesses May 25, 2011. Representatives from Japan, Beijing (China), USA, and Europe were impressed by the great work and the level of innovation that was showcased in Penticton.
Seven members from the BC Ministry of Jobs, Tourism, and Innovation along with Mayor Dan Ashton, city planner Anthony Haddad and EDS staff David Arsenault and Calum Lloyd toured Slimline Manufacturing Ltd., Nor-Mar Industries Brutus Truck Bodies, and Waycon Manufacturing Ltd., before attending presentations and a luncheon at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
“The whole day was a great and a rare opportunity for local businesses to build some key connections and broaden their markets,” said Economic Development Officer David Arsenault.
Arsenault mentioned that “the TIR’s are extremely knowledgeable individuals, they may work overseas in different regional markets but they’re employed by our BC government; they’re here to help our local businesses.”
The overall feedback was tremendous. Local companies were grateful for this opportunity amongst others that EDS has been working diligently to provide for them.
Overall, Penticton’s local businesses have been expanding internationally and now having this opportunity at their fingertips to meet contacts who can facilitate the global expansion process has helped significantly. The TIR function was a big opportunity for local organizations to find new ways to expand their business, create more exposure, and learning to do it all as efficient and effectively as possible based on the expert advice and information that the TIR’s were able to provide.
