Manufacturing
The manufacturing sector employs over 10 percent of Penticton’s workforce, in about 85 companies, making it the fourth largest employment sector in the economy. The industrial zones are centrally located in the city with excellent access to the major highways. Ongoing upgrades to the infrastructure are providing new curbs, gutters, water, sewer and street services to the area. Approximately 280 acres (112 hectares) of Penticton’s land area is industrial zoned land.
Most companies employ less than 20 persons. A variety of products are manufactured including precision manufactured equipment, commercial truck trailers, recreational vehicles, modular and log homes, software, furniture, vitamins, clothing and specialty food items.
Lumber and value-added wood product manufacturing comprise the single largest sector of the growing manufacturing industry in the region. This is followed by metal and steel product manufacturing, and the manufacture of food and beverage products.
