Education Levels

The percentage of city and regional population, 15 years and over, with a high school graduation certificate is similar to that of the rest of the province. The percentage of persons with a trades certificate or diploma is higher. The Okanagan-Skaha School District, which operates Penticton’s schools, has achieved a graduation rate of 84.4 percent, well above the provincial average of 79.7 percent (the rate is the proportion of students who graduate, with a Certificate of Graduation, within 6 years of starting Grade 8).

Education Facilities

Penticton provides a full spectrum of public education facilities from pre-school to senior secondary, including arts and technical training. It also has two special education facilities and a successful French Immersion Program. All this is complemented by a number of independent schools. Okanagan College and Sprott-Shaw Community College have campus’ in Penticton, The Glenfir School private school in Summerland and University of British Columbia–Okanagan is located in Kelowna.
